How a German research and engineering company in salt technology — around 150 employees — went from a first AI workshop to company-wide use of generative AI: individual AI assistant accounts for a large part of the workforce, shared usage guidelines, and a newly created internal role dedicated to AI.

Unser Kunde ist ein deutsches mittelständisches Forschungs- und Ingenieurunternehmen im Bereich der Salzweiterverarbeitung mit rund 150 Beschäftigten in den Bereichen Verfahrenstechnik, Laboranalyse und Anlagenplanung. Wie die meisten Ingenieurbüros dieser Größe ist die tägliche Arbeit stark dokumentenlastig: Technische Berichte, Angebote, Forschungszusammenfassungen und Projektdokumentationen gehören zum Alltag.

Die Herausforderung

Als die Zusammenarbeit im Jahr 2024 begann, war generative KI eher ein Versprechen als gelebte Praxis. Die offenen Fragen waren die, vor denen jedes Mittelstandsunternehmen steht: Wo hilft generative KI in der spezialisierten technischen Arbeit wirklich, wie setzt man sie verantwortungsvoll ein und wie baut man Kompetenz in der gesamten Belegschaft auf, anstatt sie nur einigen wenigen Enthusiasten zu überlassen?

Der Ansatz

lyfX.ai has accompanied the company continuously for over two years — deliberately not as a one-off training, but as a long-term enablement partnership. It started with practical, hands-on workshops on working with AI assistants: understanding what language models can and cannot do, and applying them directly to the participants’ own tasks. From there, the focus moved to concrete use cases in daily work — research, drafting reports and proposals, and working with technical documents — supported by guidance on tool selection and usage guidelines.
